Welcome to bvmd!

Welcome to the wonderful world of SCOPE (Standing Commitee on Professional Exchange) and SCORE (Standing Commitee on Research Exchange) in Germany!

( This side is still under construction! We apologize the incompleteness. )

Who are we and what are we doing?

We are the “bvmd - Sparte Austausch” - the exchange department of the German medical students’ association. The bvmd is the national association of all medical students’ representations, we are member of the IFMSA, the international federation of medical students associations and are the voice of more than 3000 German medical students. The exchange department organises about 300 medical clerkship units and about 40 research units for foreign students who want to come to Germany. In return the same number of students from Germany do a medical clerkship or a research project abroad.

Why do a medical exchange?

If you do a medical clerkship in another country, you the unique opportunity to get to know a medical system in another country which is a very valuable experience.

If you do a research exchange in another country it shows you different ways of scientific work and lets you get to know different research standarts from your home country. It also helps to connect certain research groups over the world.

And in addition to all this, through an exchange you have a great opportunity to experience a culture and mentality different from what you are used to - and this time not as a tourist!

Why choose Germany?

In the heart of Europe lies Germany, the most populatet country of the continent. Here you find a high clinical and scientific standard in medicine to make your exchange - whether clinical clerkship or research project -  a highly valuable experience.

In Germany you can also find a huge cultural diversity. Whether you will experience Prussian correctness or Bavarian “Gemütlichkeit”, you will have a great time! Just remember: Germany is the home country of some of the most influencial scientists in medical history, e.g. Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923), inventor of the X-ray.

“I want to GO either to Berlin, Munich or Heidelberg!” that’s where 75% of our foreign incomings want to GO. But Germany consists out of so much more than these cities!

To enjoy the atmosphere of Germany’s typical student’s towns you should consider going to Tübingen, Marburg or Göttingen but EVERY city with a medical faculty in Germany has it's attractions.
